JAPAN FESTIVAL 2007

The Japan Business Society of Detroit  has committed resources and manpower in Detroit for over 30 years, helping to create a bridge between the Japanese and American cultures.  One of the communities favorite events sponsored by the JBSD is the annual Japan Festival.  This year, it was held on Sunday, October 21st, 2007 at the Novi Civic Center.  Together with JSD Women's Club, the Japan-America Society of Greater Detroit and Windsor and the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit, the festival hosted a variety of events, including the traditional music performances by Miyabi and Konami Ensemble, the Miyazaki Animation film showing, displays of the Tea Ceremony, origami, and calligraphy along with, of course, traditional Japanese food.  The main feature included an overview of martial arts, and the all-ages demonstrations of Kendo, Judo, Aikido, and Karate riveted the audience, both Japanese and non-Japanese alike.  The unseasonably warm October weather made the afternoon a family-friendly outing that was clearly enjoyed by thousands of attendees.
The festival is always a highlight of the JBSD calendar, in line with their goal to not only to promote the business communication between Japan and the U.S., but to develop relationships with the local community through cultural education, communication and social interaction.
